Enchanting flower fest unfurls at Mao

Governor V Shanmuganathan today inau-gurated the 2nd Flower Festival at Pfukhro, Mao Gate, Senapati district.
The three-day long festival is being jointly organised by District Administration, Se-napati and Mao Flower Gro- wers' Association in collaboration with Dept of Horticul- ture and Soil Conservation and Dept of Commerce and Industries, Manipur.
In the previous edition of the festival, about 50 flower growers took part while 64 stalls have been opened in this year's festival.

More than 30 different species of flowers were put on display this year.
A bonsai developed for 26 years which was put on display attracted maximum attention of flower lovers.
L Dikho, MLA of Mao AC, Mao Council and other bodies have extended support to the festival.
Governor V Shanmuga-nathan also unveiled a monolith at Mao Island as part of the three-day event.
Apart from opening the stalls formally, the Governor also unveiled a memorial stone at the main venue, Pfukhro.
Speaking at the occasion, Governor V Shanmuganathan urged the flower growers to grow varied species of flowers with an aim to develop Mao.
He said that growing different varieties of flowers in the area would surely go a long way in attracting tourists.
He also said that the Central Govt is giving priority to the NE region in terms of development.
It is also providing opportunity to unemployed youth of the region so that they get employment.
Guest of honour, O Nabakishore, Chief Secretary said the fact that Manipur is a home to varieties of flowers including rare ones the festival is well reflected in the Flower Festival.
He said that floriculture is a kind of doing big business.
One can invest in exporting the flowers to other places after packaging.
The State Govt will extend possible assistance.
