KIMACS to observe 'Thang-Ta Gi Numit'

The Kanglei Indigenous Martial Arts and Cultural Society (KIMACS) has been observing the 'Thang-Ta Gi Numit' on November 15 since last year.
This year it will be observed for one month from October 15 to November 15 under the theme "Thang-Ta For Healthy Nation" to encourage people to maintain their health considering the COVID-19 pandemic, said KIMACS in a release.
Giving a brief account on how November 15 came to be known as Thang-Ta Gi Numit, KIMACS said in 2018, a protest demonstration was staged demanding the Government to appoint Thang-Ta teachers in Government schools.
On July 26, 2018, a protest demonstration was staged at the office of State Education (S) and again on July 29, 2018, a sit-in protest was staged at Keisampat Yumjao Lairembi hall.
A memorandum was also submitted to the Chief Minister however the Government did not responded, it further said.
As a follow up, a protest demonstration was staged during the recruitment exam of contract lecturers in Education Department.
27 protesters were arrested by the police on November 11, 2018 .
After a meeting was held with the Government, Joint Action Committee and KIMACS, the 27 protesters were released without any conditions on November 15, it said.
"The elders, Ojas and people agreed to observed this day as Thang-Ta Gi Numit," KIMACS said.
Iningthou Meidingu Leisemba Sanajaoba speaking at the "4th Interschool Thang-Ta Group Competition" at Khuman Lampak held on October 24 and 25, 2019 declared officially that November 15 will be observed as 'Thang-Ta Gi Numit' .
KIMACS said during the month long observation, blood donation, cleanliness drives, tree plantations and other Thang-Ta related activities will be conducted.
