Orange Fest set to return after 2 years

The Orange Festival which was suspended for two consecutive years due to the Covid-19 pandemic would be held this year.
A meeting of the Orange Festival Organising Committee was held today at the Chief Minister's Secretariat with Chief Minister N Biren in the chair.
The meeting was participated by Water Re- sources Minister Awang-bow Newmai, Manipur Tourism Corporation Chairman Karam Shyam, Tamenglong AC MLA Janghemlung Panmei, Chief Secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary MA Khan, Horticulture and Soil Conservation Commissioner P Vaiphei and other key officials of Horticulture Department.
The meeting agreed to hold the Orange Festival on the theme 'Tameng-long Orange overcome boundaries', sources informed.
It is said that the State Government has initiated due process to export Tamenglong oranges which have already received GI tag.
The meeting also discussed about alleviating the economic condition of the orange farmers of Tamenglong.
