Promoting tourism at Phayeng

Phayeng Chakpa, a small village in Manipur located in the North Eastern part of India is now becoming vibrant with the arrival of the tourists, as the village is top listed in responsible and sustainable tourism .
Located 16 kilometres away from Imphal city, Phayeng Chakpa village is the hallmark for sustainable tourism.
The village is known as one of the sacred places in Manipur and the cutting down of trees and spitting is prohibited here .
There are four people reportedly who go on regular duty to see that there is no tree felling and no destruction to the forest and the wildlife here .
In order to preserve a clean, dirt free and green environment and to give back to the nature, the organisers of the World Tourism Day celebration instructed the outbound visitors to not distort the place even after the convention .
Speaking at the World Tourism Day event as the chief guest, the State Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Revenue, Karam Shyam said that Manipur should become tourist friendly and provide a protected environment by improving the law and order situation, in order to boost tourism and the travel related business .
Karam Shyam also urged the citizens to help the Government in making Manipur a favoured tourist destination in India and the world as well, which would thereby boost the State economy, by promoting the archaeological places, natural beauty and the North East Indian Culture .
Principal Secretary of Manipur Tourism, PK Singh said that the Tourism Department is planning to begin several new initiatives of tourism sector like letting out all the tourism properties for private management, and home stays .
The State Government and the Tourism Department want to project Manipur as a major tourism destination in maintaining a green and the dirt free environment .
Cultural dance like Khou Chongba and Chakpa Phayeng Anoiba Jagoi (ritual sword dance) marked the World Tourism Day at Phayeng village .
As part of the World Tourism Day celebrations, the display of Mukna (wrestling) and Waa Chingba (tug of war using bamboo) by the residents of the Phayeng Chakpa also enchanted the spectators.
