Assault slur raised

Just a few hours after the close of polling, BJP workers and supporters allegedly assaulted five persons and vandalised several vehicles at Lairongthel polling station number 33/3 area yesterday at around 10.30 pm.
The persons who were allegedly assaulted are Laishram Dallu Singh, L Ibopishak, L Boy Meitei from Lairongthel, Okram Roman Singh from Malom and his younger brother Okram Khogen Singh.
The group of attackers also allegedly vandalised nine vehicles - Maruti Gypsy (3), Hyundai Creta (1), Maruti 800 (1), Mahindra Scorpio (1), Hyundai I-20 1 and Honda Activa (2).A sit-in protest was staged today at Lairongthel Lampak condemning the alleged attack.
Speaking to media persons, one of the protesters stated that the BJP supporters came at the Lairongthel polling station number 33/3 area along with a large number of people in 40-50 vehicles at around 10.30 pm and chanted victory before opening fire and thrashing the people in nearby areas allegedly.
Condemning the assault, he urged all the perpetrators to not bring dirty politics at Lairongthel where people coexist cordially.
"Don't convert Lairongthel into Heirok," he asserted and added, "We didn't stand in queue to become a victim of such bestial acts" .
Another protester stated that the incident happened while he was waiting for his son who served as a polling agent for the rival party.
Claiming that one of the assaulters pointed a gun at him while hiding in one house, he added that they (the attackers) left after his wife pleaded for mercy.
