Stage set for 3rd Shirui Lily fest

Ukhrul MLA Alfred S Kanngam, who is also in-charge of entertainment section of the coming 3rd Shirui Lily Festival, which will be held from October 16 to 19, has appealed to one and all to come and participate in the festival.
Speaking to media persons at Shirui Hall, Hotel Imphal today, the MLA said that for the convenience of people who will come to the festival, help lines which will operate 24 hours a day will be established at the villages starting from Yaingangpokpi to Ukhrul.
In a first for the festival, paragliding facility will be available at Phangrei and necessary trials have been completed to ensure its success.
A permission has also been sought from the competent authority, the MLA said adding that till date, around 500-600 people have registered on-line for home stay facilities.
Informing that registration for the festival has already begun, Alfred explained that passes at the rate of Rs 50 will be provided to the people to watch the rock performance by Nazareth and Extreme.
This passes will help in regulating the people who come to watch the performances, he added.
On the other hand, Tourism Director W Ibohal said that the festival will be kick started by Union Tourism Minister Prahlad Singh Patel at Shirui village.
The festival venues include TNL Ground and Baksi Ground as well, he added.
A cooking competition for women will also be held as a part of the festival, he said, adding that numerous cultural shows will be shown and many stalls will be opened as well.
