Imphal, May 05 2023:
Manipuri Diaspora Bengaluru (MDB), Karnataka has expressed deep concern over the ongoing communal violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur.
In a release, MDB urged the Government of Manipur and Central Government to take immediate action to restore peace and harmony in the region.
Pointing out that the violence has already caused loss of lives and property, MDB shared that it is imperative for the Government to take swift and decisive action to prevent further damage and bring the situation under control.
It urged the Government to initiate dialogue between the two communities and take measures to address the root causes of the conflict.
"This includes addressing issues of land disputes, political representation, and historical grievances", it added.
MDB also urged the Government to provide adequate security measures to prevent further violence and ensure the safety of civilians caught in the conflict.
"As an organisation committed to promoting peace and reconciliation, we stand in solidarity with the people of Manipur in this difficult time.
We urge the Government to prioritize the restoration of peace and stability in the region and work towards a long-term solution that addresses the underlying causes of the conflict", it asserted.
MDB further appealed to the public not to spread fake news which may cause more violence and at the same time not to believe until the news is authenticated.
