Imphal, May 05 2012:
Peeved with the Principal's notification requiring 2nd and 4th semesters students to get re-admission, students of DM College of Science have launched an agitation against the notification.
As per norms, there are two semesters in an academic year.
Hence, students once admitted for the 1st and 3rd semester need not get re-admission in the 2nd and 4th semesters as they are in the same academic year.
Accusing the Principal of violating established norms, students of DM College of Science have launched an agitation since May 3 against the Principal's notification for fresh admission of students for 2nd and 4th semester.
The Principal has also been alleged of not turning up for talks with the students for settling the matter.
Speaking to the media, Games and Sports Secretary of DMC Sc Students' Union, Ajit said disgruntled students have caused slight damage on the window panes and some flower pots as the Principal has not been available for an appointment to sort out the problem since the agitation was launched on May 3 .
Meanwhile, Principal of DM College of Science, Dr P Ranabir has today alleged that college properties worth about two lakh have been damaged at his office during a student mob on the issue of examination form submission.
Contending that the Principal is charging unnecessary admission fees against the norms of semester system throughout the State, he cautioned that further course of agitation would be launched in case the Principal fails to settle the matter in person by Monday.
Ajit also recalled an earlier incident wherein the Principal re-embursed all admission fees collected from 2nd and 4th semesters students.
Meanwhile, Principal of DM College of Science, Dr P Ranabir today said the college would stand by its earlier fee structure as provided in the prospectus and would not alter the structure.
He alleged that college properties worth about two lakh have been damaged at his office during a student mob on the issue of examination form submission.
"As the destructions were caused during my absence from the office for an urgent appointment, I could not control the situation in time," the Principal said in a statement to the press.
Refering to the alleged fee anomaly, the statement of the Principal said fee structure for 2nd and 4th semester students is clearly shown on page 10 and 11 of the College's Prospectus, 2011-12 which received the approval of the Education Directorate after adopting it in a meeting of Education Commissioner, Additional Director and College Principals of the State.
Making his position clear, the principal affirmed that the college would adhere to the fee structure provided in the prospectus and no alteration be affected in this regard.
Maintaining that there is no instance of the College authority charging extra fees to the students, the statement said fees chargeable from the 2nd and 4th semesters students included exam fee and laboratory fee.
Since no fund has been coming from the Government for the purchase of minor lab equipments including glass wares and chemicals for practical class, it is certain to maintain the lab with funds collected from the students, it said.
Informing the parents to clear dues pertaining to examination fee, the Principal also informed the authority to submit examination fees in time.
He urged the students not to cause disturbance on the study atmosphere of innocent students while also calling them to extend co-operation in ushering quality education in the State by refraining from all threats and pressures.
