Imphal, October 04 2017:
Locals are raising concerns regarding the deplorable condition of the Imphal to Andro road, especially the stretch from Kongba Kshetri Leikai upto Khounou Dhobi Lampak Mamang, which seems to have been completely forgotten by the State Government .
The road is considered as one of the most important roads, connecting Imphal East with Andro and Thoubal district .
The approximately six kilometres long road stretch from Konung Mamang upto Irilbung police station comes under three important Assembly Constituencies of Imphal East district, namely Kshetrigao A/C of BJP MLA, Nahakpam Indrajit, Yaiskul A/C of BJP MLA Satyabarta and Thongju A/C of BJP MLA Biswajit (who is also the Works Minister) .
Some of the worst road conditions are found in the one and half kilometres long stretch from Kongba bridge to Kongba Khounou Dhobi Lampak Mamang, which lies between the two Assembly Constituencies of Thongju and Kshetrigao .

Potholes measuring around 5 feet wide and 3 feet deep can be found all over this road stretch .
Some of the potholes were filled with rocks, particularly near Andro Parking area of Imphal East.
Locals said that the condition of the road has been really bad for the last few years and it is worsening day by day due to the heavy traffic .
They also pointed out that during the time of the last Assembly election, many of the self acclaimed social workers and candidates filled some of the potholes with rocks and promised to repair the road if their parties come to power and form the Government .
But after the election, all the promises and assurances given to the people regarding better road conditions have simply vanished, the locals complained .
The people face many kind of hardships during the rainy season as the large potholes are filled with rain water and mud .
Two wheeler vehicles and four wheelers with low ground clearance, also face inconveniences while plying along the road, especially at Kongba Khounou Dhobi Lampak Mamang.
Sometimes, vehicles even get stuck in the middle of the road due to the potholes.
The locals sarcastically remarked that during the time of the rainy seasons, they are considering turning the road into a fish farm .
They pointed out that uncountable number of accidents have occurred due to the deplorable conditions of the road .
Only yesterday itself, six accidents occurred at Kongba Khounou Dhobi Lampak Mamang, they said .
The people also complained that they face difficulties in breathing during the dry seasons due to the dust filled road .
The State Government keep making various claims regarding taking up steps for better road connectivity, through news and banners erected along the roads in various parts of the State, but the reality is completely different.
Due to the condition of the road from Kongba Kshetri Leikai to Kongba Khounou Dhobi Lampak Mamang, it is often called the second National Highway-Imphal-Jiribam road in the valley, by locals and passer-by, the locals added .
They further appealed to the State Government and the authority concerned to take up necessary measures to repair the said road taking into account the hardships and inconveniences faced by the people.
