15th FC Members visit Spt, Kpi

AN Jha and Dr Ashok Lahiri, Members of the 15th Finance Commission, Government of India, visited Senapati and Kangpokpi today.
The members held an interactive session with the ADCs of Senapati and Kangpokpi along with the district level officers at DRDA Hall, Senapati district headquarters.
The Commission studied the ground situation with a view to recommend possible solutions to address developmental challenges the two districts have been facing.
Kangpokpi Deputy Commissioner Lalithambigai K and Senapati Deputy Commissioner Somorjit Salam presented brief profiles of the two districts with regard to the current situation and main occupations of the population.
Lalithambigai K highlighted the various plantations such as orange, lemon, kiwi, cardamom and banana being taken up by the farmers and briefed them about floriculture, handloom, handicraft, food processing, poultry and animal husbandry practices in the districts.
She remarked that there is unemployment, lack of transportation and connectivity, technical and scientific research development facilities.
She identified illegal poppy cultivation in remote hill areas as a major problem.
She also highlighted the prospects of tourism in the districts and potential in sports sector.
The Members of 15th Finance Commission also visited FEEDS Hengbung in Kangpokpi district and inspected various departments within the campus.
AN Jha and Dr Ashok Lahiri, accompanied by DC Kangpokpi, Lalithambigai K inspected the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hengbung, College of Horticulture, College of Agri-Biotechnology, College of Community Science and Orchid Research and Development Centre and Ethno Medicinal Research Centre at Hengbung.
FEEDS Hengbung president Haokholet Kipgen was present during the Hengbung visit.
