After days of taking to the street to demand the revocation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act from the State, the Manipur University Students Union today launched a street play titled, "Meekap Thokpa�.
Launched with the primary objective of airing the demand for revoking all black laws from Manipur and to reach each and every section of society and spread awareness, the street play was staged at four different places today.
The play was staged at Wangoi bazar, Bishnupur bazar, Pishum Thong and in front of JN Hospital at Porompat.
In a statement issued to the press today, MUSU president H Ashirjit Singh said that the play was launched with the primary objectives of sensitizing the people to the excesses and atrocities of the security personnel as well as the machinations of the political class in subduing the people.
The play is also aimed at awakening the people to need to rise as one to defend the right of the people, said the statement.
Plays are primarily seen as entertainments and to help one pass the time, but plays can also be used effectively to convey social messages and take up issues confronting the people, noted MUSU and added that all the professional actors ought to realize that their trade can do wonders in spreading information and sensitizing the people.
Appealing to all the professional actors use their skill and expertise to spread awareness, the student body said if they fail to rise up to the call of the hour, then their profession will only be seen as a means to earn a livelihood.
