Imphal, March 02 2020:
Following timely intervention of CSOs, a tense situation that erupted between the neighbouring villages of Hijam Khunou and Shikhong following the murder of a man this morning has been mollified considerably.
Following the murder, a tense situation erupted between the two villages.
However, representatives of AMUCO, UCM, JCILPS, AMMOCOC, MMWO and PSO went to the villages and talked with both sides and they somehow succeeded in reducing the tension to a great extent.
Briefing media persons at Kwakeithel office of AMUCO this evening after returning from Shikhong and Hijam Khunou, AMUCO general secretary L Thoithoi, speaking on behalf of the CSOs, said that the murder was very unfortunate.

The killing did not have communal tone nor inter-village feud.
It was a personal matter between the killer and the victim, Thoithoi said.
He then appealed to all the people not to spread false propaganda or rumours about the incident in social media.
Informing that the accused Maibam Shantikumar has been arrested by police, the AMUCO general secretary pledged that CSOs would extend all possible assistance to see that the accused is awarded befitting punishment in accordance to law.
Appealing to both the parties to maintain calm, Thoithoi urged all the people not to spread any false propaganda or rumour which may spark communal conflict.
MMWO general secretary Aminuddin Moijingmayum said that the killing ought to be condemned by all the people.
He said that the demands of the JAC should be addressed effectively by the Government.
Saying that Shikhong and Hijam Khunou have been living together in harmony since many years back, Aminuddin too appealed to all the people not to spread rumours based on the particular incident which may spark unwanted incidents.
He also hailed Thoubal District Police for their timely action which prevented the situation from going out of hand.
