119th birth anniv of Irabot kickstarted

The month-long 119th birth anniversary celebration of Jananeta Hijam Irabot has kick-started at Keishampat Lairembi Shang-len from today under the aegis of the Irabot Celebration Com-mittee.
CPI Manipur State secretary Dr M Nara, Manipur Loumi Lup president N Mangi, CPI Manipur State secretariat member L Ibo-yaima and Irabot Celebration Committee secretary L Sotin-kumar were the presidium members of the opening function.
In his speech, Dr M Nara said that there is a need to monitor whether the three Bills passed by the State Legislative Assembly for safeguarding the indigenous people of the State are properly enforced or not when these Bills are transformed into Acts.

Dr Nara glorified Hijam Irabot as the defender of the eastern frontier and an architect of modern Manipur.
He said that Irabot worked hard towards ending all forms suppression and uplifting the status of women.
N Mangi said that CPI Manipur State has been celebrating the birth anniversary of Hijam Irabot since 1959 .
Irabot sacrificed his life for the protection of the rights of workers and weaker sections of the society, Mangi said.
He added that Irabot stood against autocracy, imperialism and capitalism.
Irabot believed in equality and opposed neo-liberalism and imperialist globalization, Mangi said.
The former Minister further said that Irabot launched an anti-feudal movement in favour of farmers and oppressed people against the king and British rulers.
He was the founder of Ma-nipur Kishan Sabha, he said.
Later, the gathering staged a sit-in-protest pressing 15 demands to the Government.
The demands include implementation of ILPS and protection of territorial integrity of Manipur.
