Charges have been framed against five family members for trial in the murder case of Khangembam Achou with Sessions Judge Bishnupur fixing March 29 for hearing of the first prosecution witness.
Notably, Khangembam Achou was allegedly murdered on August 6, 2019 in a land dispute at Kumbi Setapur Mayai Leikai and the main accused of the case is Nongmaithem Surjit.
The charge order was announced by the Court yesterday after it was kept on reserved after hearing the submissions of Additional Public Prosecutor L Danny Meetei and defense counsel on February 18 .
The charge sheet submitted by the Investigating Officer named five accused persons Nongmaithem Surjit Meetei (35), his father Nongmaithem Chingkhu Meetei (71), brother Nongmaithem Inaobi Meetei (42), mother Nongmaithem (O) Sanahanbi Devi (68) and wife Nongmaithem (O) Chingkheinganbi Devi (35) .
The chargesheet accused main accused N Surjit of killing his neighbour Khangembam Achou on August 6, 2019 by chopping off his head using a dao near the gate of the victim at around 11.30 am.
The five family members surrendered to the police the next day.
Charges have been framed against N Surjit Meetei for commission of offences punishable under Section 302/120-B/201 IPC.
The others have been charged under relevant Sections for involvement in conspiracy, hiding the murder weapon and tampering evidence.
