Imphal, February 01 2017:
One driver who has been left physically immobile following a road accident has expressed strong resentment against the alleged Government's apathy.
Laishram Premjit (28) of Pukhrambam Maning Lei-kai, Bishnupur district met with a road accident in October 2015.Since then, not only Premjit, his whole family have been suffering a lot.
Talking to The Sangai Express, Premjit recounted that he was heading toward Imphal alone after leaving passengers at Moirang when his Tata Winger van turned turtle due to a large pothole near Maibam Lotpa Ching.
He said that he sustained injuries on the head and right leg.
His right leg is now totally paralysed.
Blaming the Government for the disastrous accident, Premjit said that he would not have met such an accident and he would be living like a normal person if the Government repaired the road in time.
As he was turned down by a Government hospital, Premjit was treated in a private hospital.
In his efforts to pay the private hospital's medical fee, his paddy field was sold off thereby landing his whole family in abject poverty.
Premjit was the sole bread winner of his family, said one Tiken Chanam of Premjit's neighbourhood.
Now Premjit's wife Abe has been looking after all the needs and expenses of their two children (aged six and four) with a meagre income earned from weaving clothes on handloom, Tiken said.
Even though many people have been killed while many others have been maimed for life, the Government seems to be overlooking the fact that most of these road accidents happen due to bad conditions of roads, Tiken rued.
Saying that they have heard about JNIMS offering free treatment to poor and underprivileged patients, Tiken exuded that the JNIMS authority and the Director would extend similar assistance to Premjit.
