International fortnight observance protesting VAW at Jiri

The Handicapped Rehabitation Organisation (HRO), Jiribam today alleged that the State Government neglects widows of Jiribam.
Speaking at a meeting today as part of WAD's international fortnight observation protesting violence against women, general secretary of HRO, Lakhipur, Jiribam Ranita Devi stated that crime against women in Jiribam has increased day by day.
The State Government has failed to provide training and other preventive measures to women of the State to safeguard them from various crimes although the Govt took several initiatives to protect wildlife, she rued.
The programme was jointly organised by HRO, Lakhipur, Jiribam, Heinou-bung Awang Women Welfare Association (HWWA) and Central Board for Worker Education (CBWE) as part of WAD's "International Footnight Observation Protesting violence against women" which kicked off from November 25.The protest campaign of WAD Imphal would conclude on December 12 .
She questioned whether the Govt holds animals dearer than the women of the State.
CBWE volunteer Kh Binasakhi Devi emphasized on the need to curb crime in the society by rewarding severe punishments to culprits.
HWWA general secretary Y Inaobi Devi said Jiribam has become a breeding place of rape, harrasment and gender discrimination.
If 60 MLAs of the State could not fulfil their duties and responsibilities to protect and assist women, they should step down from their posts, she added.
