Mother and Child Health +A, Mission Indradhanush awareness campaign concludes

Imphal, January 29 2016 : The awareness campaign on Mother and Child Health +A (Adolescence) and Mission Indradhanush (MCH and MI) which was launched by the Directorate of Field Publicity (DFP) Regional Office, Nagaland and Manipur at various areas concluded today at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound, Imphal.

The DFP is a media unit under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and is engaged in the task of interpersonal communication with common man settled in far flung areas where there is lack of transport and communication facilities described as 'shadow area' .

The four-month long campaign was launched in October 2015.Activities of DFP are organized in collaboration and coordination with the Central Government, State Governments, peoples' representatives, local Government, opinion leaders, local NGOs and institutions working to facilitate various development and social welfare programmes of the Government.

Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Station Director of All India Radio Prasar Bharati M Kanankumar, Sagolband AC MLA RK Imo and Regional Director of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India Dr L Ashananda graced the programme as presidium members.

Speaking at the function, Deputy CM Gaikhangam stressed on the importance of DFP in disseminating different plans and programmes in remote areas.

He also lauded the officials of DFP for their relentless effort and said that the campaign is an important step to create well-informed communities about the National objectives to improve maternal and child health.

He, however, maintained that society usually fails to grasp the information and act accordingly.

He suggested that DFP should deploy means and techniques to attract a large number of people.

"Even though India is a democratic country, people are not democratic.

One of the reasons of lopsided development in the State as well as in the country is due to people's inability to develop a mature mentality.

Information of different plans and programmes must be enforced with vigor in remote areas.

Only then, objectives of various welfare schemes can be achieved", he said.

The two ways communication process between the Government and public must be fulfilled by every stakeholder.

The Government would try to know what the public want and the public should question what the Government is doing for the betterment of society at large, he asserted.

Addressing the gathering, M Kanankumar stated that the Directorate of Field Publicity is covering the "shadow areas" where media could not reach.

He urged the departments concerned to extend cooperation to media so as to deliver the information far and wide.

Dr L Ashananda, Regional Director of Health and Family Welfare discussed the various benefits provided to mothers and children by the Central Government under Mission Indradhanush.

IIS Regional Director Dr Engam Pame explained the works of DFP and stated that the organization strive to reach areas which have not been covered by most of the departments.

During the campaign, the Nagaland and Manipur Regional Office has recognized 36 programmes and covered 47 villages.

The main objective of Mission Indradhanush is to immunize all children against seven vaccine preventable diseases namely diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, tuberculosis, measles and hepatitis B by 2020, he added.

As part of the function, a report on awareness camp of MCH and MI 2015-16 was also launched by Deputy CM Gaikhangam.
