Imphal, September 25 2021:
Condemnations continue to pour in over the brutal murder of Athuan Abonmai, former president of Zeliangrong Baudi.
Strongly denouncing the cold blooded murder of Athuan Abonmai on September 22, Chanura Lamchinglel Kangleipak (CLK) said that all should come out against such a barbaric and inhumane act.
In a press release, CLK recalled Athuan Abonmai as a prominent leader of the State who propagated the idea of a unified Manipur and for a harmonious existence of the Hills and valley people of Manipur.
Raising questions on the security lapses which led to his murder after he was whisked away right outside the venue where a programme was held attended by the Chief Minister and other high officials at Tamenglong District Headquarters, CLK stated that such an incident clearly indicates that there is no law and order in the hilly regions and is ruled by some armed gunmen and the Government has no say in it.
CLK also demanded that stringent punishments should be awarded to the perpetrators at the earliest and pledged to extend all possible support to any activities which will be taken up by JAC formed against the murder of Athuan Abonmai.
Several other organisations from across the State including Kangleipak Women Welfare Association (KWWA), Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO), All Manipur Rickshaw Drivers' and Pullers' Welfare Association (AMRDPWA), Manipur State Committee Democratic Bharatiya Samaj Party, The United All Communities Social Up-lifters Kangleipak, Kanglei Ima Lup (KIL), All Zeliangrong Arts & Cultural Organisation (AZACO) and Leadership Council of Thang Ta also strongly condemned the barbaric killing of Athuan Abonmai.
The organisations in separate statements denounced the act and held the Government and security forces responsible for it and also pledged to extend solidarity to all the activities of the JAC formed in connection with the murder of Athuan Abonmai demanding for justice.
Further the organisations urged the Government to take up stringent measures to arrest the perpetrators and award befitting punishments to them at the earliest.
Also they prayed for the peace of the departed soul and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
