Imphal, December 24 2020:
The sixth edition of India International Science Festival 2020 concluded today.
The Science festival coordinated by CSIR-National Environment Engineering Research Institute, Ministry of Science & Technology and Vijnana Bharti started Tuesday, December 22 .
Attending the valedictory session as chief guest virtually, Governor Dr Najma Heptulla stated that in this modern era, particularly in the 21st century, scientists, engineers, and medical professionals play pivotal roles.
These professionals explore ways and means for solving problems faced by the people relating to energy, environment, water, food and diseases.
The percentage of the scientific and technological workforce is increasing day by day and women, at this juncture, should also participate, she said.
Dr Najma also said that more women in science and engineering should endeavour to become entrepreneurs in order to start new companies; create business units, organizations, etc, and function as social entrepreneurs focused on societal issues.
In this modern age, entrepreneurship represents a vital source of change in all facets of society, empowering individuals to seek opportunity where others see insurmountable problems.
The conclave has showcased the strengths and activities of women in science and entrepreneurship and provided a platform for the young women scientists and entrepreneurs to interact with experts in these fields, she added.
Pointing out the IT (Information and Technology) skills of the North-East people, she said that thousands of young minds are working in this sector and earning a good name for themselves and their organisations.
"In Manipur, for example, hospitality comes naturally to the younger people and their IT skills are par excellence.
In my view, organisations in the country should have special focus on the North East with the aim of training the youths in this sector and giving them good employment and entrepreneurship ideas and in the process also help their assimilation into the National mainstream.
"More fascinatingly, there are talented young men and women who possess the potential of becoming scientists and engineers.
Many Manipuri scientists, engineers are working not only in the country but in various foreign countries," Najma said.
She appreciated the efforts made by the Ministry of Science and Technology in organising the mega event.
