Imphal, December 24 2012:
Manipur Students Association, Delhi (MSAD) while condoling the death of TV journalist Thangjam Dwijamani condemned the Chandel incident.
In a press release, MSAD condoled the killing of Thangjam Dwijamani alias Nanao in police firing.
The State, instead of making adequate security arrangement for safe passage of people stranded in Imphal and other parts of Manipur resorted to killing of civilians to fuel the prevailing tension and shied away from its responsibility to be effective in dealing with the demand for justice.
On the otherhand, MSAD also condemned the molestation and physical assault of a film actress and firing on other two actors by one Livingstone Anal, a Lt Colonel of the NSCN (IM) during a musical concert held in Chandel on December 18.Whatever the pretext, context and agenda might be, the crime committed of Livingstone cannot be justified, MSAD observed and appealed NSCN-IM not to delay in taking punitive action against the culprit.
MSAD while expressing deep concern over the issues arising out of the December 18 incident cautioned against any attempt to make communal interpretation of the criminal act of Livingstone.
MSAD also appealed the general public cutting across community affiliations to refrain from any communal forms of assertions and media browbeating on the pretext of demand for justice and peace.
MSAD also urged the internet users and programme organisers to refrain from passing communally provocative statements and comments merely that may add confusion and hatred, which in trurn would not lead towards peace and development.
MSAD demanded the Government of Manipur and Government of India that the reasons for increasing militarization of Manipur be explained.
MSAD also questioned whether the State apparatus including the Judiciary are not meant for the protection of life, dignity and honour of the people.
MSAD cited the main reason for the cause of the current turmoil as Assam Rifles and Manipur Police personnel's failure to immediately intervene into the incident when it was happened that night.
Saying that MSAD believes that underground armed organizations including NSCN-IM are dependant on the money directly or indirectly collected from people, MSAD appealed the outfits to review their respective disciplinary mechanisms so that when cadres become aberration and indulge in criminal activity prompt actions are taken up to deliver justice to the victims.
Maintaining that delay in action had created tensions and confusions in the past and the present, MSAD appealed the outfits to instruct its cadres to shun actions which may instigate communal tension and collectively work towards urgent delivery of justice.
