UNC sponsored total bandh total in Chandel

MOREH, August 24 2011: No vehicle plied along ImphalMoreh road on account of the total bandh imposed by UNC for the second consecutive day today.

Acting on the instruction given from the head office of UNC, Chandel Naga People's Organisation (CNPO) in association with various Naga communities settling in different parts of Chandel district has been enforcing the total bandh since yesterday.

While Anal and Mongsang communities enforced the total bandh along the National Highway 39 yesterday, Maring and Moyon communities ensured the success of the bandh today.

Around 53 vehicles including 38 vans, 2 cars, 9 Tata Sumos, 2 DI Tatas which have come from Imphal were not allowed to enter Moreh and forced to turn back today.

Bandh supporters erected road block at five points along the route from Lamkang village to Pallel.

Tomorrow, it would be the responsibility of Lamkang, Chothe and Tarao communities to enforce the bandh.

Following imposition of the bandh, around 34 Imphal-bound vehicles including 2 buses, 2 Tata trucks, 2 DI Tatas, 2 Tata Sumos, 9 Vans and 19 others have also been stranded near Tengnoupal Police Station.

The bandh supporters have informed that the ongoing total bandh would continue until the Government of Manipur and UNC arrive at an amicable solution.

NPO cautions: Naga People's Organisation (NPO) has urged the State Government including the Opposition parties to exercise extreme caution in dealing with the present volatile situation arising out of the districthood demand for Sadar hills.

In a statement, NPO president ML Markson said that no political parties should try to take advantage of the issue but rather focus on a collective and coherent resolution.

The recent provocative judgement passed by MPP, NCP, CPI-M, BJP and others without acknowledging the historical facts and sentiments of the Nagas will only worsen the present situation and continue to cause damage to the community serenity in the State.

Appealing to the political parties/leaders in Manipur to maintain extreme sincerity in representing the issue in the Assembly rather an politicising it for election gains, Markson said that the Opposition parties must speak out against any divisive role of the ruling Government's policies to victimize and suppress the historical rights of a particular community at the expense of another.

Objecting to the Cabinet decision of forming a Committee on Re-organisation of Administration and District Boundary, NPO asserted that such decision to create artificial boundaries is only an attempt to give away Nagas' right over their ancestral land.

Therefore, creating administrative boundaries is as good as bifurcation and direct creating of another district from its parental boundary.

Any illogical and prejudice conclusion over the issue during the ongoing Assembly session will only escalate the present volatile situation rather than finding solutions, the NPO statement observed while condemning the alleged communal agenda of Chief Minister of O Ibobi Singh in instigating a litigious issue between the Nagas and other communities of Manipur.

Tomching supports : The Tomching Chingshang area of Senapati district comprising 19 Thangal Naga inhabited villages have also announced support to the stand of UNC that no Naga areas be bifurcated in the creation of Sadar Hills district.
