Imphal, November 23 2020:
While welcoming the proposed visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to the State within the current month in connection with the Government of India's quest for a solution to the Naga peace talks, CPI Manipur State Council has asked Amit Shah not to do anything which may fragment or pave way for disintegration of Manipur.
A statement issued by CPI State secretary L Sotinkumar said that the party has been wishing for Amit Shah to come to the State.
CPI Manipur State Council has been inviting Amit Shah to visit the State.
Sotinkumar also expressed keen desire for the Union Home Minister to stay at Imphal for at least two days and talk with all political parties and stakeholders about the Naga political issue in a very democratic manner.
It would be a big mistake for the NDA Government if Amit Shah comes and goes back after meeting only Chief Minister N Biren, Sotinkumar said.
He asserted that the Government of India should not grant any autonomous region or council to the Nagas on ethnic lines under pressure from NSCN (IM) .
Any misplaced policy has the potential to polarise the indigenous communities of Manipur.
The malicious politics of NSCN (IM) general secretary Thuingaleng Muivah and his supporters, and their attempt to misinterpret history will never bear fruit, said the CPI State secretary.
After Manipur was coaxed to join the Indian Union through the Manipur Standstill Agreement and the Instrument of Accession, the Government of India has been keeping Manipur like a colony, he alleged.
Although it is the 21st century, Manipur still remains quite backward in all aspects.
Manipur can overcome all its maladies and step on a progressive path only when it is granted more political and economic autonomy, Sotinkumar added in his statement.
