Imphal, April 22 2021:
Congress MLA Kh Joykisan has blamed the successive State Government's negligence and failure to protect sacred sites related to Meitei religious beliefs and faith for the Koubru imbroglio.
Speaking to media persons at his Khoyathong residence today, Joykisan said that the past Governments and the incumbent might have developed several religious places but none of them bothered to develop any sacred site which are central to Meitei religious belief.
The stand off over Mount Koubru and the aggressive posture adopted by some people which deeply hurt the sentiment of Meitei community is a result of the Government's prolonged negligence of the sacred sites which are central to the Meitei religious belief and world view.
Asserting that Mount Koubru is one of the holiest places of the Meitei community, the Congress MLA pledged all possible if any Meitei religious group or CSO plans to build a temple atop Mount Koubru.
Declaring that he would donate Rs one lakh as soon as any group/organisation come out with an announcement to build a temple atop Mount Koubru, Joykisan said that he would do whatever he can to facilitate donation from Meitei people settled outside Manipur towards construction of such a temple.
He asserted that it is the sacred duty of Meitei community to develop the holy site of Mount Koubru.
Joykisan appealed to the incumbent Government to pay due attention and take pro-active roles in constructing a temple of Lord Koubru atop Mount Koubru, even if the past Governments did nothing to this end.
Commenting on the bandh called by Panchayati Raj Institutes against the Government's failure to release wages of MGNREGS job card holders, the Congress MLA called upon one and all to ponder whether the bandh sponsors are right or the Government is culpable.
Remarking that denial of wages is a crime, Joykisan urged the Government to release the MGNREGS wages as soon as possible.
Noting that people in the State have started experiencing the woes of COVID-19 second wave, he appealed to all the people to adhere to the SOP strictly.
