Senapati, April 22 2013:
All Naga Students Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has lambasted the State Government for not extending any effort to secure the release school girl Alice Kamei from the custody of Revolutionary Peoples' Front (RPF) .
"Miss Alice Kamei of Chingphu Zeliangrong village, a Class IX student and aged only 14 years has been in the custody of the Revolutionary Peoples Front(RPF) for one month and 12 days.
In spite of appeals and protests from tribal organi- zations, she continues to be kept away from school and away from the nurturing care of her parents," said the Naga students' body.
The All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) said today that the Naga students' body along with its constituent units has been using its office to facilitate her safe return with high confidence in the good sense of the RPF.
"But Alice is yet to return home.
At this juncture we once again appeal for the immediate release of the underage girl student to enable her to resume her normal life as is the right of every child," ANSAM added.
"The silence and inaction of the Manipur state government on the abduction of Miss Alice is anything but condemnable.
A girl child has been kept in the custody of a militant group.
Her life and future is at stake.
The tribal organisations have protested both in the media and in agitation.
But leave aside cabinet meetings, heated discussions in the state assembly or high powered delegation to Delhi, the government of Manipur is not bothered in the least.
Miss Alice is after all not Miss Momoko (Manipuri film actress).
The abduction of an underage tribal girl is not comparable to the reported assault on a celebrity star from the Imphal valley.
Ibobi's government, supposedly a popular government in a democratic system is blatantly communal in its response as borne out by the two episodes," it stated.
"As the Manipur government has wilfully failed in its moral and mandated responsibilities, we appeal to the government of India to immediately intervene and secure the safe release of Miss Alice," said the Naga students' body.
