Imphal, February 20 2014 :
Apathy of the State compounded with the irresponsible attitudes of the employees concerned has reduced public service in Tamenglong district to a naught.
As such, huge amount of funds tapped from different sources like NEC, DoNER for improvement of road, health care system and education fail to pay dividend, the Zeliangrong Students' Union Manipur (ZSUM) said while drawing the attention of the concerned authority for immediate redressal.
Observing the reported sub-standard construction of the double-lane Kangpokpi-Tamenglong road much to the disappointment of the public, Zeliangrong Students' Union, Manipur (ZSUM) has drawn the attention of the concerned authorities to pull up the contractors concerned so as to check such corrupt practices in future.
Thin blacktop layer, ruined wooden or makeshift kacha culvert along the road, under NEC project, needed immediate attention of the concerned authorities, a statement issued by ZSUM said.

A 15-member team of the ZSUM has conducted an inspection tour in Tamenglong district from Feb 16-18 .
Highlighting the finding of the inspection team through a press statement, the ZSUM further said that no contractors or sub-contractors or any caretaker were present at the work site.
Besides, the engaged workers do not know the contractors for whom they were working for.
The ZSUM inspection team also observed irregularity of many school teachers in the district apart from shortage of necessary infrastructures.
At Langmei Primary School in Tamei subdivision, students were seen attending classes with a single note book each besides shortage of teaching staff, the ZSUM said.
A single desk and two benches are seen inside a class room while ruined furniture were found piled up in other rooms.
There is shortage of teaching staff and infrastructure at Tamah Govt Primary School.
The ZSUM also pointed out that the nearly 200 households Tamah village deserves an upper primary school and a high school.
Although there is shortage of staff, Langmei Govt HS, among others, has done well in its own right, the ZSUM noted.
Wondering how huge amount of fund sanctioned through various agencies like Education dept, ADC, SSA, RMSA, RUSA etc for improving the quality of education could be misappropriated, the students' body urged civil society organisations and like-minded citizens to extend cooperation to eradicate corrupt practices.
Lack of infrastructure, man-power and facilities and absence of experts characterised all CHCs, PHCs and PHSCs in the district, the statement further highlighted.
Only the chowkidars were seen at all health centres.
As such, helpless patients are left in the lurch, it added while also saying that transfer and posting of doctors seems to be done only in paper.
