CM distributes loans, lays foundation stone

Imphal, December 18 2020:
Chief Minister N Biren Singh distributed loans amounting to around Rs 3.9 crore to 1520 beneficiaries under Manipur State Cooperative Bank Ltd.
(MSCBL) at a function held at the Chief Minister's Secretariat today.
The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone of an amusement park which would be constructed at Awang Potshangbam Khunou, Imphal East.
The loan/assistance was provided as part of the Prime Minister's Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abiyan to help the beneficiaries practice different occupations like dairying, poultry, piggery, duckery, fishery, and also to run Self Help Groups.
It was the 4th such credit linkage programme organized by the bank.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, N Biren said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had introduced many noble schemes to specially help needy people.
Distribution of loans is a part of his Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, which is aimed at making people economically self reliant, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, he added.
The Chief Minister said that some people used to make mockery of Meeyamgi Numit and Hill Leaders' Day in the beginning.
However, the Government has been able to help hundreds of hard working people in the form of loans through Meeyamgi Numit and Hill Leaders ' Day, the Chief Minister said and added that MSCBL alone had provided loans worth over Rs 16 crore to different people, who came on Meeyamgi Numit and Hill Leaders' Day so far.
Now, all these people are running their business successfully and repaying loans regularly, he added.
The Chief Minister also expressed gratitude to different banks operating in the State for extending full cooperation to the Government in this regard.
He said that banks providing maximum help to the people would be definitely rewarded.
Stating that the Government is fully committed to rehabilitate poppy growers, the Chief Minister also informed that National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has assured help to the State Government in this regard.
Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister Awangbow Newmai and CAF and PD Minister Th Satyabrata also attended the function.
Biren laid the foundation stone for the State's first ever water amusement park and inaugurated Likla Leima Leikon at Theng Ngu Chingjin at Awang Potshangbam Khunou in Imphal East district today.
The amusement park would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 40 crore by Manipur Police Housing Corporation Ltd while Likla Leima Leikon is managed by a local management committee with assistance from the Directorate of Environment.
Speaking at the occasion as the chief guest, Biren said that it has been his dream to have an amusement park in the State because there is no proper recreational place.
The Chief Minister said that he once tried to develop a water body along with a park at Lamphelpat when he was the Chairman of Manipur Pollution Control Board in 2004.However, it could not be materialized due to different reasons, he added.
Saying he is now happy that foundation stone for a water amusement park has been laid today, the Chief Minister added that it is being targeted for completion before the end of 2021 .
Stating that large number of people would visit the park every day after its completion, the Chief Minister said that people of the area would therefore benefit in different ways.
On the other hand, N Biren said, around 460 acres of land had also been earmarked at Lamphelpat to develop a water body.
This would definitely help retain the natural state of Lamphelpat, he added.
Among others, Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister Awangbow Newmai, Tourism Minister O Lukhoi and Social Welfare Minister Okram Henry were also seated on the dais as dignitaries.
