Ministers asked to refrain from organising social functions

Chief Minister N Biren chaired a meeting of the State Consultative Committee on COVID-19 at his office today and discussed several issues related to the COVID-19 second wave.
On the other hand, the office of the Chief Minister has also issued an advisory to all Cabinet Ministers, Legislators and Government functionaries to refrain from organising, participating or promoting any event which may create or attract public gathering of any size.
"As gatherings of various reasons are potential sources for spreading the virus [coronavirus], all Cabinet Ministers, legislators and Government functionaries are advised to refrain from organising, participating in or promoting, in any manner whatsoever, events or functions by whatever name called, which will create or attract, or likely to create or attract public gathering of any size," said the advisory.
The meeting also adopted certain decisions on social gathering, partial lock-downs, timing of opening markets, official programmes, re-engagement of nurses and multi-tasking staff etc.
Sources said the meeting decided to extend the duration of the night curfew and reopen COVID-19 Care Centres at R&D Wing Lamphel and Bal Bhavan at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.
The decisions were taken anticipating a possible surge in the number of Covid infections in the days to come.
Notably, many States including Maharashtra, Delhi, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh etc are seeing sharp rise in the number of infections.
The meeting also decided to impose stricter restrictions and reduce the size of religious and other gatherings.
The meeting also gave its nod to re-engage doctors and nurses who were earlier engaged in COVID-19 duties on contractual basis.
Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar, Ministers and high ranking Government officials took part in the meeting.
