Save Thoubal River: 24 hours total shutdown in Thoubal district

Thoubal, February 16 2018:
Thoubal River Conservation Committee with the people of Thoubal today called a 24 hours total shut down of the district from midnight today to midnight of February 17.The total shut down in the district was called as result of the failure of the Government to come up with a positive solution or step to save the Thoubal River.
The Thoubal River Conservation Committee yesterday served a deadline (February 16) and had warned that it will launch stringent agitation if the Government failed to respond positively before the deadline.
People in Thoubal district have been demanding a measures from the Government to make the river pollution free.
Several clubs and organisation have been demanding a tight regulation to check sand mining in the river.
Appeals were made to the concerned departments of the Government on February 4 regarding the muddy water.
But authorities have failed to take any actions, said locals.
The 24 hours shut down will not affect schools, medical emergency services, electricity departments, water supply, customary/religious activities.
It will not affect media/ media persons, said the river committee.
35 clubs, Thoubal River Conservation Committee, women vendors and a large number of people also hold a public meeting today at Thoubal.
The meeting condemned the failure of the Government to give any positive responds so far and alleged that it was a clear sign that the Government is ignoring its people.
