Imphal, September 14 2014:
While extending unstinted support to the ongoing mass movement for implementation of Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) in Manipur, the All Assam Manipuri Union (AAMU), Assam has conveyed its readiness to provide all possible assistance whenever required.
"Although we have settled outside Manipur, we are very much concerned with such issues of influx and their implications.
The situation in Assam is such that indigenous Assamese are not in a position to determine the future of their own State", said a press release issued by AAMU.
"It is now or never for the Manipuri people before the situation aggravates to the stage Assam finds itself in today", it asserted.
Detention of JCILPS leaders, closure of schools and colleges to suppress the mass movement and the indifference of legislators to the burning issue would prove very costly in the end.
Once the immigrants overwhelm the indigenous population, all the indigenous people including those at the helm of affairs would be swept away and Manipur would be left at the mercy of immigrants.
The issue of ILPS is a genuine public issue and the genuine fear about the possibility of indigenous communities being wiped out from the surface of Earth must be addressed to immediately.
It's time for all the indigenous communities of Manipur including those settled outside the State to join hands and strive collectively for enforcement of ILPS or some other regulatory mechanism., AAMU concluded.
