KIM seeks justice for 'NSCN (IM) genocide'
Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, September 13 2021: Demanding justice for the Kuki people who were allegedly killed, tortured and displaced by the NSCN (IM) and their associates/collaborators, Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) and several Kuki organizations have submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister today.

Addressing a press meet held today at their office at Kuki Inn, Imphal, KIM vice president Hejathang Khongsai stated that Kukis in Manipur and abroad have been observing September 13 as the black day or Sahnit Ni as the NSCN (IM) and their collaborators had allegedly massacred more than 1000 innocent Kuki civilians, including women and children on this day in 1993 .

He further alleged that altogether 1157 innocent Kukis were killed besides uprooting 360 Kuki villages and more than 1 lakh Kukis rendered homeless by the NSCN (IM)'s ethnic cleansing carried out from 1993 to 1997 .

"The mass killing of Kukis by the NSCN (IM) and their collaborators in the infamous Kuki Genocide of 1992-97, is arguably one of the bloodiest genocides in the history of modern India.

September 13 is a distinctly important date and the darkest date in the history of Kukis, when Kukis around the globe remember and reflect on the horrors of the fateful day", he said.

Decrying that justice for the victims of the alleged genocide is yet to be delivered till date, the KIM VP maintained that the State Government and Central Government are equally deplorable and responsible for they have failed to deliver justice for the hundreds of innocent Kuki people who were killed and thousands others who were brutally tortured and rendered homeless.

He said that the failure on the part of the Union Government to recognize the Kuki Genocide is in complete violation of the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, which it had signed on the 29th of November, 1949 .

"The injudicious approach and attitude of the Indian Government towards the killings of thousands of Kukis in the infamous Kuki Genocide of 1992-1997, is clearly reflected in the fact that more than two decades have passed since, but not one has ever been charged or indicted for this sordid crime against humanity", Henjathang added.

Sominthang Doungel, another vice president of KIM stated that mass prayers were conducted at community level in all Kuki inhabited areas of the State and abroad.

He also said that the mass rally which was organized every year in the State was cancelled this year in view of the ongoing pandemic.

Informing that KIM had been submitting memoranda, seeking justice for the victims of the alleged NSCN (IM) genocide to Prime Ministers of India, Sominthang informed that a similar memorandum would also be submitted today to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

It is learnt that KIM and several Kuki organizations called on the Chief Minister in this regard and jointly submitted the said memorandum this afternoon through him.
