Imphal, March 10 2013 :
Indo-Burma-Sugnu Road Bus Owners' Welfare Union today served an ultimatum to the State Transport Authority for revoking the latter's decision to issue 'contract carriage permit' to Tata Wingers to operate service in between Kakching Khunou and Imphal.
Speaking to newspersons at its Paona bazar office, union secretary Th Radheshyam Singh observed that State Transport Authority (STA) adopting a resolution in its February 26 meeting for issuing permit to Tata Wingers would not only put Tata Winger and bus operators on a collision course but is an invitation by the STA to the bus operators to agitate.
Insisting that bus operators would cease service from tomorrow onward in case decision to issue permit to Tata Wingers is not annulled with immediate effect, the secretary also alleged that some corrupt officials in the Transport Department were responsible for issuing the permits to Tata wingers.
Disagreeing with a newspaper report that cited a court order directing the Transport Department to issue permit to the Tata Wingers, Radheshyam insisted that earlier High court rulings (Jan 28 & Feb 13) on the issue made no mention about issuing permit to Tata Wingers.
he also questioned on what condition the Transport Department annulled its own order (Sept 21, 2010) not to issue contract carriage permit.
