Imphal, February 10 2020:
The Mapithel Dam JAC and the Mapithel Dam Affected Headmen, Chiefs and Elders Organisation have called a 48 hour total shutdown on Imphal-Ukhrul road and the road leading to Mapithel Dam from Imphal-Ukhrul road with effect from the midnight of February 16 till the midnight of February 18 .
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, Mapithel Dam Affected Headmen, Chiefs and Elders Organisation chairman M Ngaranmi said that the Mapithel affected people and the State Government agreed on providing compensation of Rs three lakh each to around 2000 families of 23 villages and also to launch several schemes which can generate income for the affected people through Agriculture, Horticulture and Tribal Development Departments.
These terms and conditions were agreed at a joint meeting held on November 19, 2018 in the Chief Minister's chamber but the Government is now refusing to implement the agreed terms and conditions, Ngaranmi decried.
As the Government refused to sign a memorandum of agreement incorporating all the agreed terms and conditions, an ultimatum was served on the Chief Minister on January 24 this year to sign an MoA by January 31.With the Government not giving any response to the ultimatum, a total shutdown would be imposed for 48 hours on Imphal-Ukhrul road as well as on the road leading to Mapithel Dam from Imphal-Ukhrul road, Ngaranmi said.
He then appealed to all CSOs, NGOs and the public to support the total shutdown.
If the Government still refuses to sign an MoA even after the 48 hours total shutdown, different modes of intense agitation would be launched, he added.
