Imphal, July 07 2021:
Works Minister Th Biswajit has said that Covid will continue to stay and appealed every eligible individual of Thongju AC to get vaccinated.
Th Biswajit said this during a mass vaccination camp held at Ningomthong Sairom Leirak today and added that the condition of the pandemic in the State has not improved yet.
Most economic activities in the State have been hit hard by the lockdown and restrictions which were imposed to curb the spread of the virus and the Government has started the mass free vaccination programme to ensure speedy return to normalcy, he added.
But it is really unfortunate that the vaccination rate is running low.
The Minister clarified that the vaccines currently in use have been approved by competent authority after various rounds of trials.
The vaccines had completed their trials and the results are satisfactory, safe and effective for human use, he added.
He also appealed to the public not to trust the numerous fake and unfounded information about the side effects of the vaccines which are widely circulating on social media platforms.
Imphal East DC Khumanthem Diana said there are 3.80 lakh eligible individuals in Imphal East district but only 1.77 lakh have been vaccinated so far.
Only 11,000 people out of 33,000 voters in Thongju AC have also been vaccinated as of today, she added.
She also appealed every eligible person to get vaccinated as it will give protection to the family members as well as the individual from the virus.
The mass vaccination programme was organised by district administration Imphal East in collaboration with Thongju Kendra Voluntary Workers COVID-19 Relief Committee, Thongju Kendra Gram Panchayat Level Covid Task Force and youth clubs of the region.
