Armed miscreants abduct couple

A man who went to attend the marriage ceremony of his brother in law was abducted along with his wife by some armed persons in civil dress suspected to be security personnel at Tonsen Khullen village in Chandel district under Sugnu PS last night.
The abducted husband-wife duo is identified as one Gopal Poddar alias T Gopal (34) S/o (L) Rajaram Poddar and his wife Jenevic Kom of Tonsen Khullen presently staying at Guwahati.
The incident occurred at around 10.30 pm when armed persons in civvies broke into the house after the marriage ceremony of Tellien Alister Kom S/o T Daijobsing and elder brother of Jenevic Kom and abducted the duo.
While speaking to media persons at his residence this morning, T Daijobsing Kom, father of the abducted woman said that when all the family members and relatives who came to attend the marriage ceremony of his son were asleep, some persons forcibly knocked at the door without uttering a word at around 10.30 pm.
Awoken by the sound, he enquired who was knocking at the door.
Then, without identifying themselves, one of the persons who spoke in Manipuri replied that they wanted to drink water and asked him to open the door for them, he added.
Kom further said that after he told them to come tomorrow as he would not open the door without knowing them, the armed persons forcibly entered the house by breaking the door and threatened all the occupants of the house at gun point.
The armed persons then launched a search and dragged out his son in-law, Gopal Poodar along with his wife who was sleeping with their three year old daughter.
They even broke the door and entered the apartment where the newly wedded groom and bride were sleeping without any respect, he added.
The armed persons took away both the husband and wife in two vehicles which were parked along the road after torturing them in front of their young daughter and all the occupants of the house despite repeated requests not to take them away.
After the incident, an FIR was registered at Sugnu PS even as the police and the officer of 22 Assam Rifles post located nearby village denied any involvement in the incident.
While appealing for the release of his daughter and his son in law unconditionally, Kom further appealed to the authority concerned to investigate the incident and take up appropriate action against those armed persons involved in the incident at the earliest.
Meanwhile Tonsen Khullen Village Authority and meira paibis have strongly condemned the incident.
