Bamboo cycle fabrication workshop ends

A joint initiative of Manipur cycle Club and South Asia Bamboo Foundation, the fourday workshop on Bamboo cycle Fabrication ended at Jupiter Yambem centre, Paona Bazar today.
As chief guest of the valedictory function, Chief Conservator (forests) N Kipgen, who is also director of Manipur State Bamboo Mission stated that for such a workshop to materialise into a fruitful venture focus should be on ensuring plentiful availability of bamboo.
Pointing out that Manipur already has substantial number of entrepreneurs in bamboo-related industrial sector in addition to the plant being one of the most favourite cuisine items for Manipuris, he said if efforts are not made to grow more bamboos both the existing sector and the latest vision for producing bamboo cycles would remain a distant dream.
Soliciting support of other Government departments in the Forest Department's efforts to replenish the bamboo forest cover in the State, the chief Conservator also suggested that the workshop co-hosts join hands in the Department's 'Bamboo Mission' .
environment and Ecology wing Director Dr Homeshwor Singh in address said that the soil and climate in Manipur are highly suitable for bamboo plantation and described the bamboo cycle concept as not only an environment-friendly venture but also as an economically viable initiative.
The Foundation's executive director Kamesh Salam speaking at the occasion confided that different positive feedback have been received from a number of people who wish to be a part of the latest initiative.
Conveying that bamboo cycles are being manufactured under the supervision of subject experts, he said bamboo materials used in the manufacture of cycles should be over three years of maturity.
Kamesh also informed the gathering that during his participation at the 9th World Bamboo congress in Antwerp, Belgium global leaders would be urged to provide all possible assistance for boosting bamboo products in Manipur.
As a part of the valedictory function, certificates were distributed to 15 individuals, who took part at the Bamboo Workshop while the chief guest N Kipgen personally experienced riding a bamboo cycle.
