Covid vaccine smuggling case : Court remands three to police custody

Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East remanded the three individuals who were arrested for 'illegal possession' of Covishield vials from Dewlahland to 8 day police custody till September 10 .
The accused Rose Shanglai @ S Rosemary (42) w/o Aphang Shanglai @ S Phaniphang of Khamlang Village at present Dewlahland; Yumnam Premila Devi @ Inaotombi (44) D/o (L) Ibotombi of Singjamei Yumnam Leikai and Lorho Pullel (41) s/o Lorho of Luwangsangbam Maning Leikai Aenon Veng were produced before the Court through video conferencing by a team of Imphal Police along with a prayer for 8 days police custody remand.
The IO of the case through APP submitted that the trio was attempting to smuggle COVID vaccine to Myanmar.
The team of Imphal West commando and women police personnel rushed to Dewlahland and carried out a cordon and search operation, during which three suspected persons including two women were arrested with 186 vials of Covishield.
On spot verification, Rose Shanglai disclosed that she contacted one Ajit from Kairang to deliver Covishield vaccine at her rented house.
Accordingly Ajit delivered the Covishield Vaccine vials to her through one unknown person.
Yumnam Premila Devi and Lorho Pullel also disclosed that they came to collect the Covishield vials from Rose Shanglai for transporting to Myanmar.
The IO further submitted that the accused admitted the charges levelled against them.
Saying that the investigation of the case is at initial stage and thorough interrogation is required to extract more clues and cause arrest of other associates, the IO prayed for 8 days police custody remand of the accused.
The Court on perusal of the case and after hearing the submission of the IO remanded the alleged accused persons till September 10 .
