'Unsafe place' tag peeves new CS

O Nabakishore who took charge of the Chief Secretary of Manipur today has expressed keen desire to remove the tag 'unsafe place' attached to the State of Manipur.
Talking with The Sangai Express at his Old Secretariat office today, Nabakishore maintained the term unsafe place is not compatible with a place like Manipur which has immense potential in the field of tourism.
It's time for the media to launch a special campaign so that Manipur is freed from the unwanted tag of 'unsafe place' so as to attract greater number of tourists to the State, he said.

Stating that his responsibilities and duties towards the State as a bureaucratic head of the State have multiplied manifold, the new Chief Secretary confided that it is now his responsibility to look after all the departments.
He said that he would personally monitor all public welfare programmes in order to usher in better administration.
He also expressed keen desire for all administrative secretaries to be far-sighted and dedicated to public cause.
Nabakishore then underscored the importance of close coordination among heads of different administrative departments.
To obtain adequate investment in order to exploit Manipur's potential in the fields of horticulture, medicinal plants and aromatic plants is one area which the new Chief Secretary expressed keen interest.
Apart from encouraging foreign investors, local investors should also be provided necessary cooperation towards establishment of factories/industrial units, he said.
Nabakishore said that he has set a target of upgrading the State's transport infrastructure including air connectivity and railways to international standard.
MoUs have been signed for construction/improvement of Imphal-Moreh highway, Imphal-Kangchup-Tamenglong road and Imphal ring road with investment from ADB.
Necessary studies have been initiated to develop Imphal-Jiribam and Imphal and Kohima highways with loans from the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
The Chief Secretary further assured that due initiatives would be taken up to set up a solar park in the State in order to address the problem of power shortage to some extent.
Chief Secretary O Nabakishore has four more years and three months before superannuation.
