OC testifies in Paraolon ambush case

Continuing the trial of the Paraolon ambush case, Officer-in-Charge of Lamphel police station, Umar Alam gave his statement as a prosecution witness before the Special Court of National Investigation Agency (NIA) today.
The accused in the case, Kunlo Abi Anal @ Ambison (37) s/o (L) Khumlo Kunlo Anal of Lalambung village, Chandel was produced before the Court from Sajiwa Jail where he is currently lodged.
The trial is being heard under case number 1 of 2016 with reference to NIA case number RC 03/2015 NIA Guwahati under Section 302/307/120B/121/121A IPC and 25 Arms Act, Section 5 Explosive Substance Act and Section 16/20 Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
In his submission, Umar Alam the then OC Tengnoupal police station, who is the prosecution witness number 6 stated that on April 6, 2015 he went out for morning Road Opening Party duty from 7 am and when he was at Chammol village he received a phone call on his mobile phone from army personnel informing about the ambush at Paraolon village at around 8.45 am.
The OC submitted that as per the instruction of SP Chandel he rushed to the spot where he came across two burnt trucks and charred bodies of army personnel inside the trucks.
He further submitted that another army truck riddled with bullets was found around 20 meter behind it.
After hearing the submission, the Court fixed April 18 as the next date for further hearing of the OC's statement in connection with the case.
It may be mentioned that so far six prosecution witnesses out of the 64 submitted by NIA had given their statements before the Court with regard to the case.
The six prosecution witnesses include former SDPO Moreh, Akoijam Sadananda and Medical Officer, Captain Karrapati Subhas.
They have been discharged from the trial following their submission of their statements.
On April 6, 2015 at around 8.15 am, 18 personnel of 6 Dogra Regiment were killed in a clinical ambush carried out by militants belonging to different outfits at Paraolon village under Tengnoupal police station around 15 km away from Indo-Myanmar border.
The accused Kunlo Abi Anal, self style Chairman of NSCN (K) Amamchat Region was arrested by a team of Imphal West commando from Lamphel Sanakeithel few days after the ambush.
He was formally arrested by NIA Guwahati led by its SP.
Charge sheet against the accused was framed on April 16 of last year and statement of the first prosecution witness was recorded on October 3 of the same year.
