Imphal, September 30 2011:
The Joint Action Committee on Khuga Dam Project has submitted a memorandum to visiting Planning Commission Member BK Chaturvedi seeking concrete assurance and trustworthy commitment with specific time frame from the concerned authority as to when the dam construction would be totally completed and the planned benefits delivered in its entirety to the aggrieved mass.
With cases of non-clearance of compensation and contract bills piling up despite crores of tax-payers' money pumped into the project, the JAC is convinced that this multi-crore dam is nothing but a death trap which can create havoc any time.
Decrying the alleged step-motherly treatment meted out to minority tribals of Churachandpur district, the JAC cautioned that they would be compelled to resort to any sort of democratic agitation to expose the corrupt practices of politicians and Government officials as recently witnessed in the Anna Hazare episode which shocked the entire country.
After perusing the memorandum, BK Chaturvedi reportedly assured the JAC members that he would take up the matter with Chief Minister O Ibobi.
