Imphal, May 30 2011:
School of GNM, Lamphel which is being run under State Health Directorate is completely in shambles.
Garage of Malaria Department is being used as kitchen for hostel and some classes are being run at hostel dining hall.
There is no power and water supply at the hostel which is not properly fenced as well.
With the nursing students staging a sit-inprotest demanding early fulfilment of all these inadequacies, AMSU and DESAM have threatened to initiate various forms of agitation if the demands of the nursing students are not fulfilled at the earliest.
The session for GNM course at the nursing school commenced on April 28 last year after conducting entrance exam on November 23, 2008 .
Highlighting their woes, the students said, "We have to buy water or fetch it from the Malaria Department using water pumps as there is no water supply at our hostel" .
Parents who are residing at nearby areas even bring water for their daughters.
Complaining that power supply is very erratic at their hostel, the nurses said that they have to buy atleast one packet of candle for one litre of kerosene everyday.
They also spend atleast Rs 50 in buying water daily, the nurses said.

They added that hostel construction including fencing is to be completed by March 31, 2007 according to a signboard set up in front of their hostel.
Meanwhile, All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) and Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) have warned that intense agitation would be initiated if the demands of the nursing students are not fulfilled at the earliest.
