Six girls in the age group of 18 to 20 years on board an inter-state bus for onward journey to Chennai in Tamil Nadu to seek job there were intercepted by the Sekmai Police Station yesterday and handed over to their respective parents today by the officials of the state Social Welfare Department.
The interception of the six girls, all hailing from Ukhrul district was amidst the recent rescued 10 boys and girls from trafficking by the police personnel of the same police station on March 24 last.
Officials of the state social welfare department who received the six girls from the police today handed over them to their respective families after counseling both the girls and their parents and guardians.
Sekmai police said the six girls of age ranges from 18 to 20 years and all from Ukhrul district were intercepted during routine checking of inter-state buses leaving Imphal for other states on the NH-39 yesterday as they could not produced valid documents regarding their purpose of visit to Chennai.
When police asked them the reason behind their visit to Chennai, they reportedly said that they were going there for jobs.
But they could not produce any documents, police said.
Unable to produced related documents they were detained by the police and informed the officials of the state social welfare who arrived instantly and took up further necessary action today.
Officials of the state social welfare said that the girls were handed over to their respective parents who were called up by the department at Imphal today.
Before handing over them, they were aware of the consequences likely to face by the girls on reaching Chennai.
