Imphal, August 28 2017:
Even though it has been more than 70 years since India gained independence and although Luwangsangol is located just around 27 Kms away from Imphal, bamboo bridge remains a key means of communication there .
Luwangsangol is located just 1.5 Km to the East of Imphal-Mao highway within Saikul Assembly Constituency and Kangpokpi district .
Except for one bamboo bridge built over Imphal River, there is no alternative means to reach the village .
One Haokholen Kilong of Luwangsangol came to the office of The Sangai Express and narrated about the primitive means of transport.
He also brought a photograph of the bamboo bridge .
He said that the poles which are supporting the bridge were erected by an NGO named World Vision.
No vehicles can cross the river for six months in a year and all the vehicles belonging to Luwangsangol are kept at Kanglatongbi .
With the bamboo bridge quite shaky now, parents are now afraid of sending their children to schools as they must cross the bridge, Kilong said .
While the elected MLAs did not construct a bridge on the charge that the villagers did not vote for them, their defeated rivals went silent even though they promised many things at the time of election, he said .
He then urged the Government to construct a bridge at the earliest in the interest of the 88 odd households of Luwangsangol.
