Imphal, August 27:
Responding to the call of the three student bodies to surrender text books as part of the ongoing agitation demanding the complete removal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act and punishment of the killers of Manorama and pastor Jamkholet Khongsai, students of Johnstone Higher Secondary School made an unsuccessful attempt to surrender text books to the Governor at Raj Bhavan today.
Students of Johnstone Higher Sec School numbering about eleven came in two auto rickshaws at around 12.30 pm and tried to enter the Raj Bhavan to surrender their text books to the Governor.
However security personnel deployed at the Raj Bhavan gate reacted swiftly and prevented the students from carrying out their protest.
Infuriated with the police for not allowing them to proceed further, the students immediately took out the text books and began tearing them apart near the gate of the Raj Bhavan.
Police personnel again interrupted and detained three students and forced them leave the area with stern warnings.
Meanwhile, a large number of students of Nambol area today staged a dharna near the Nambol PS as a mark of protest against the detention of agitation leaders under the National Security Act by the State Govt. The protestors also held placards reading "Remove AFSPA from Manipur", "Book us under the NSA" etc during the dharna .
The school students belonged to the Nambol Higher Secondary School, Leiren Girls School, Nambol Collegiate High School, Brilliant Academy and Tensubam Doren Memorial Academy.
All the protestors were herded onto a 407 Mini Tata at around 1.30 and driven to Leimaram before being released.
Mention may be made here that State Govt had arrested many leaders of various organizations spearheading the current agitation and booked them under the NSA NSA to contain the current agitation.
Biramangol College Students Union while strongly condemning booking of various Organization leaders under the National Security Act has termed the act of the State Govt as immature and irresponsible which should be condemned by one and all.
