Imphal, October 25 2011:
The JAC Against the Illegal Eviction of Yaipha Leikai, Lamphel has accused the Manipur State Commission for Women of refusing to take their complaint against the Government.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, JAC president Tongbram Gunadhor said that the commission paid little attention to their tales of woes caused by eviction from their Yaipha Leikai homesteads on June 6 this year.
In view of the difficulties being faced by the evicted people, particularly women and children, the JAC approached the MSCW to instruct relevant authorities to take up certain welfare/relief measures for the evicted people.
But the commission not only humiliated the JAC members but also refused to take in their complaint, Gunadhor said.
Questioning if the commission's function is limited to separation or unification of couples, Gunadhor alleged that the commission is as good as dead.
He also decried the act of eviction and demolition of houses within 24 hours of serving notice in the name of development programmes.
He further demanded the Government to take rehabilitation programmes for the eviction victims who have been rendered homeless.
