Japan apologises for Khurai bombing

Imphal, April 25 2017:
The Deputy Chief of Japanese Embassy in India, today, apologised for the people who were killed during a feast at Khurai Chingabam Mandap due to a Japanese bomb during World War II.
On April 20, 1943, a Japanese bomber dropped a bomb which killed around 100 individuals during a feast and destroyed the structure which still remains untouched to this day.
Sunichi Inou, Deputy Chief of Japanese Political Section in India, visited the location and paid floral tributes at the memorial foundation and apologised to the victims' families.

Today's visit was planned by Second World War Imphal Campaign Foundation and Manipur Tourism Forum.
Extending condolences to the victims' families, Sunichi Inou said that Japan would provide every possible support and aid to Manipur.
He also expressed desire to organise interaction programmes of Japanese and Manipuri youth in order to strengthen relations and diplomatic bond.
The families of the victims presented a traditional Meitei Phanek to the Deputy Chief's wife.
Khuraijam Nimaicheron, son of K Angou who was one of the many killed in the bombing, expressed happiness and satisfaction with the visit by the Japanese officials.
It may be mentioned that Second World War Imphal Campaign Foundation had handed over the list of 69 individuals to the families of the victims recently.
The Deputy Chief arrived at Imphal to inspect the preparations for Battle of Imphal Memorial function which is being organised by Manipur Tourism Forum and Second World War Imphal Campaign Foundation.
