Imphal, July 24 2020:
The two Central observers sent by BJP National office with the primary task of resolving the discord among BJP legislators on the demand of replacing Chief Minister N Biren and Ministry reshuffle wrapped up their meeting with BJP Ministers and MLAs of the State today.
BJP National vice-president Bijaiyant Panda and former Union Minister Manoj Sinha have been eliciting opinions and wishes of BJP legislators one by one at Classic Grande since yesterday.
The two observers met many BJP legislators today too including Works Minister Th Biswajit and Social Welfare Minister Nemcha Kipgen one by one and asked their opinions on the protracted discord among the BJP legislators.
The observers took maximum time with Th Biswajit as their meeting lasted for almost one hour and a half.
Their meeting started at 10.30 am and went on till 12 noon.
After holding another meeting with Speaker Y Khemchand at Classic Grande in the afternoon, the Central observers went to the Chief Minister's bungalow and held a separate meeting with N Biren.
They discussed the State's current political situation with the Chief Minister before holding separate meetings with BJP senior leaders of the State including former party presidents, sources informed.
Although what exactly transpired during the separate meetings with BJP legislators and senior leaders could not be ascertained, some of the legislators reportedly asked the observers how the paramount task of governance can be carried out effectively when there is no unity among the BJP MLAs.
They said that BJP would find it very tough to fight the next State Assembly election if the incumbent leadership is not changed as Chief Minister N Biren and a former vice-president of BJP Manipur Pradesh have been named in a multi-crore high profile drug seizure case.
The MLAs asserted that the drug issue would have serious repercussions on the Government as well as BJP.
Saying that whether there should be Ministry reshuffle or hot depends on the wisdom of BJP Central leaders, the MLAs urged the Central leaders to act in the interest of the people of Manipur and the party.
In the present scenario, BJP would find it very tough to fight any election in the State, they said.
Earlier there was no groupism within BJP and the BJP-led coalition Government but it appears that groupism has become a reality now, they said.
The two observers also met Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar of the NPP and Awangbow Newmai and Dikho of the NPF.
The two are scheuled to leave Imphal tomorrow and submit a report to BJP Central leaders, the sources added.
