Imphal, July 24 2019:
The 24 hour general strike called by the JAC formed in connection with the mysterious death of Ningthoujam Babysana crippled normal life in Imphal and the adjoining areas today.
According to a late report, members of the JAC met the Chief Minister and the DGP today in the evening and it was agreed to hand over the case to the CBI.
It was also agreed that a fresh post mortem of Babysana would be conducted and the IO of the case would be an officer not below the rank of an Additional SP.
As a result of the bandh which began from 6 am today, Khwairamband Keithel bore a deserted look and the situation was the same at other areas including Thangmeiband, Singjamei Kongba, Kwakeithel and Lamlong etc.

Thangmeiband, from where the late child hailed from was particularly affected.
A brief stand off occurred between bandh supporters and the police at Thangmeiband Polem Leikai today at about 5 pm.
All schools and business establishments located in and around Imphal remained closed while the number of employees at Secretariat and other Government Departments remained extremely low.
All inter-State and inter-district passenger services were halted as a result of the bandh today and many bandh supporters could be seen in various locations blocking the roads.
However, flight service remained unaffected by the bandh.
Locals could be seen blocking the road at Singjamei, Thangmeiband and other localities thus preventing vehicles from going any further along the roads.
Apart from some private vehicles, no other vehicles could be seen plying on the major roads of the State today.
On the other hand, protesters staged a sit in protest along the road in front of DM College, under the aegis of the JAC.
Many similar sit in protests were also held in various parts of Imphal today condemning the incident and the silence of the Government on the matter.
As a measure to prevent any unwanted incidents, a large number of Manipur police personnel were deployed at various locations.
The bandh, which will continue till 6 am tomorrow, is being supported by AMSU and many other student organisations.
It may be mentioned that Ningthoujam Babysana (14) of Thangmeiband Maisnam Leikai was found hung to death under mysterious circumstances inside the hostel of Standard Robarth Hr Secondary School in the morning of July 18 .
