Imphal, June 24 2014:
Subse-quent upon a series of measures taken up after the Chief Minister took charge of the Power portfolio which include bifurcating the department into two separate companies for transmission ad distribution, the State Government has decided to introduce pre-paid meter system in all Government Departments.
A proposal submitted by the distribution company to introduce pre-paid power bill system in all Government offices including the Secretariat has been approved by the Government in principle, informed an official source.
Once the new initiative is put into practice, the Government would receive power bills of around Rs 40 crore from Government offices in advance which at present is generally paid at the end of each financial year.
The Government is currently studying some technical points about the volume of power to be supplied or required at the Secretariat and other major Government offices.
The new initiative to introduce pre-paid power bill system would also encompass official quarters of Ministers and MLAs.
The same system has been already introduced in Government offices at Delhi, said the official.
