Cultural programme at Senapati

A one day cultural and musical exchange programme was held today at Senapati Public Ground under the aegis of Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) and Kuki Students' Organisa-tion, Sadar Hills (KSO-SH) .
The programme held under the theme "Building rela- tions through music" was aimed fostering closer emotional, spiritual and physical relationship among different communities settled in Sena-pati district, particularly bet- ween the Nagas and Kukis.
The main highlights of the programme were presentation of cultural dance and music of the Kukis and Nagas, and a gospel musical regale.
The first session of the cul-tural cum musical exchange programme was graced by RD&PR Minister Francis Ngajokpa, MLAs Nemcha Kipgen, Dr V Alexander Pou, Dikho Mao and Senapati DC PK Jha.
Leaders of NPO, Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills, school students and the general public attended the programme.
In his welcome address, SDSA president LR John said that knowing and understanding each other is the first crucial step in the collective search for peace.
It was with this conviction that SDSA and KSO-SH jointly organised the programme with the aim of building closer ties between the two communities.
Even though some unwanted and violent incidents took place between the two communities in the past, it is time for both the communities to forget the sad episodes, know each other and live together.
Giving key-note address of the programme KSO-SH president Thangminlien Kipgen said that the programme was specifically organised to build a strong relationship among tribal communities of Senapati district and propagate the message of peace and progress.
RD&PR Minister read out Chief Minister O Ibobi's message for the programme.
In his message, the Chief Minister stated that the State can live for a long time only on the tripod of peace, harmony and love.
As written in the Chief Minister's message, Francis Ngajokpa announced a cash incentive of Rs one lakh from the Chief Minister's discretionary fund to the organisers of the programme.
Lauding the joint effort of SDSA and KSO, Francis Ngajokpa remarked that the two students bodies have successfully accomplished a task which their elders could not execute at any point of time in the past.
He hailed SDSA and KSO as peace messengers and pioneers.
Both KSO-SH and SDSA presented their own cultural expositions.
This was followed by a gospel musical regale during which six artists presented solo music performance.
The programme culminated with presentation of gospel music numbers by six different bands.
