Committee For Civil Liberties, Sadar Hills Manipur has strongly condemned the personnel of 14 Assam Rifles for forcing the villagers of Motbung, Saitu-Gamphazol and Kangpokpi areas to stage a rally on August 21 demanding for continuation of AFSPA in the State.
In a statement, secretary of the committee informed that CO of the 14 AR post Motbung along with CO of 14 AR post Lairou summoned ail the chiefs of the area at the Motbung post and ordered the chiefs to organize rallies in the area demanding for continuation of AFSPA in the State.
The CO also threatened the chiefs with dire consequences if they fail to carry out the orders of the AR.

Meanwhile, All Tribal Student's Union Manipur has also strongly condemned the act of the Assam Rifles and termed the act as very unfortunate and insane.
Stating that people of both the hills and valley are one and united in the demand for the removal of AFSPA from the State, Asst gen secy Thomas Taishya said that AR had forced the villagers to carry out the rallies with an aim to sow seeds, of hatred among the hills and valley people.
He also said that the lack of public protest in the hills regarding the removal of AFSPA from the State should not be interpreted as being against the removal of the dreaded Act.
